The Center for Human and Robot Co-Adaptation

Overview

As people increasingly live and work alongside robots, they adapt their behaviors and expectations over time, while expecting robots to adapt to their needs. At the Center for Human and Robot Co-Adaptation (HRC), we develop assistive robots and seek to understand, predict, and shape this co-adaptation to meet people's needs and benefit their communities.

Established in 2026 as an NSF Science and Technology Center, HRC brings together researchers in AI, robotics, cognitive science, and social science to develop algorithms, computational models, and new methods of inquiry for studying human-robot co-adaptation. We engage a broad range of stakeholders in designing and deploying robots in real-world environments, including hospitals, homes, dorms, restaurants, and assisted living facilities.
